X-PLUS™ (X+) is a construct based on the sage parable of stewardship in which those entrusted with “talents”, no matter to what level or degree, are exhorted to use and apply them.  In other words, in whatever state you find yourself in (X) and regardless of how that state compares with others, you should endeaver to add value and increase your leverage or influence to reach a higher state (X +).

In basic systematic analysis, “inputs” determine “outputs” and there are often multiple inputs (X’s) to consider. Their interaction (addition, subtraction etc) equates to the sum or product (X + or “Y”).

This is the meaning behind the term X-PLUS™, and what is the basis for the methodology meant to assist any person or organization in realizing the higher state of X + or Y (Why?).

X- PLUS™: eXamine, Purpose, Learning, Unity, Structure

eXamine: Are you committed to take the time to assess who you are, where you are, why you are here, and what really matters the most? What are the inputs (X’s) that are determining your outputs (X+ or Y’s)? This is a soul-searching, challenging, systematic inquiry that asks difficult questions and will require transformative action. Are you and your organization committed to fundamental, meaningful change?

Purposeful: Find and focus on your core purpose and vision – the “Why” and the “Y”.  By creating a shared vision, mission, meaning, and identity that permeates the organization, we empower every single employee to leverage their inherent, life-giving, “carbon” element, the organizational DNA – the core desire to serve and make a difference.

Learning: Any living thing must grow and develop. A Learning organization creates a collaborative environment where teamwork uses the collective intelligence of each employee to constantly adapt, share and invest in knowledge, new ideas, and innovation. Organizations need a systematic way to create and exchange learning and development. In a dynamic, competitive environment, sustaining the rate of learning may be the only real competitive advantage.

Structure/Systems: How an enterprise is structured and organized determines how “well” it functions. Structure determines function and systems determine behavior. Traditional hierarchies can become little more than blame-shifting mechanisms where at the end of the “problem” there is a search for a person/cause, but the “problems” aren’t usually the people, the “problems” are in how they are organized. By creating viable, integrated, defined and modular structures, organizations can more effectively align strategy and execution with customer needs.

Finally, once the mechanisms are in place for a shared Purpose, a Learning environment, and a viable Structure, an organization can finally experience the Unity that comes with enhanced collaboration and communication. This Unity is systematically re-enforced and holds the organization together.
